Job Demands Analysis

What is a Job Demands Analysis (JDA)?

A Job Demands Analysis is a structured occupational therapy assessment designed to identify the specific physical, cognitive, psychosocial and environmental requirements of a job.  Information is collected through  a detailed interview and review of clinical records by an occupational therapy specialist.  A Job Demands Analysis helps the concussion rehabilitation team  understand the essential duties and demands of a specific work role that a patient is aiming for during their return to work post-concussion.  The occupational therapist also supplements this information with details about the job requirements from the National Occupational Classifications (NOC).  The detailed information about job demands is then compared with post-concussion clinical information about the patient’s current abilities, tolerances, and restrictions.  The Job Demands Analysis results in a specific job description and a clear breakdown of the patient’s limitations and restrictions that may be preventing them from returning to work.

Job Demands Analysis and the Toronto Concussion Clinic

Job Demands Analysis help

Currently, a Job Demands Analysis at the Toronto Concussion Clinic is completed by our Occupational Therapist and is conducted virtually.  The assessment typically takes two hours to complete and is usually scheduled as two separate 1-hour appointments.  To book for a Job Demands Analysis, simply click here.  Concussion patients are encouraged to seek OHIP-Funded consultations with our program first to help leverage the occupational therapy in your post-concussion rehabilitation.  This way, concussion medical doctors are also involved in the process, further strengthening the resulting Job Demands Analysis.  Fees for a Job Demands Analysis are the standard Occupational therapy fees.  Any report required for your employer/insurance company may incur an extra fee.  You should advise us of any required report you require so we can give you an estimate for the cost of this up front before any work is done.  Often, occupational therapy is covered by your extended health benefits.  You can confirm with your insurance company if you are covered.  Once the Job Demands Analysis is rendered, you will be provided with a receipt which you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.  For those patients that sustained their concussion during a Motor Vehicle Accident, you can reach out to us by email at team@torontoconcussion.ca and request that we create a treatment plan for these assessments and any related therapy (like cognitive rehabilitation and occupational therapy) for submission to your car insurance company for pre-approval.
